Folksy "Follies" Great Fun at the Covedale

The Will Rogers Follies (book by Peter Stone, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, music by Cy Coleman) premiered on Broadway in 1991 and ran for two years. The original was directed and choreographed by Tommy Tune, the choreography of which has been delightfully interpreted at Covedale by Kate Glasheen.

It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and you really don’t want to be the runt. “Everybody loves a winner,” goes a lyric from Cabaret(which is currently onstage at the Cincinnati Playhouse), but the flipside of that is that “Nobody loves a loser.” That’s pretty much the story of Mike Bartlett’s Bull, currently onstage at Know Theatre, a portrait of bullying in the context of office politics.

Know's Darkly Comic "Bull" Keeps You Guessing

It's hard to know what to make of "Bull", which opened a monthlong run this Friday at the Know Theater Friday evening.

 

It's a disturbing play to be sure.  But it's one that manages to be savage and humorous at the same time.  It's a curious combination.  But then, "Bull" is a curious play.
